TROUBLE SHOOTING SOFTWARE
"POST" Specification Advanced Diagnostics Software Specification
POST stands for Power On Self Test and it is a series of diagnostic routines, contained in the BIOS ROM on the system board that are invoked at system power up. Initially, these diagnostic routines check out the various functions on the system board. Any basic system failures are indicated by tones on the system speaker. Then the internal RAM is checked, followed by the adaptor boards which are installed in the system board and then POST check the IBM PC keyboard.

If a failure is detected during this phase, an error code is displayed on the video screen that points out the failing subsystem. Otherwise, POST routines will check system memory. During the memory test phase, it displays the current memory address under test. Finally, the system beeps the speaker once upon the successful completion of POST.
  • Used as diagnostics tool when performing repairs on the IBM PC Computer.
  • An easy-to-use menu-driven screen.
  • Provides an error logger, which records intermittent errors that may occur while looping the diagnostic tests.
  • The diagnostic supervisor program takes direct control of the system and present you with "menu screens" *The "Home-menu" is meant for Run Diagnostic Routines, Format & Copy Diskette, prepare system etc.
  • In Run Diagnostic model, all possible I/O devices are checked for their presence & list the results.
  • The system check out menu is used to control the diagnostic execution and the error logger function.
  • Diagnostic supervisor run the tests one at a time and inform the program of the tests as they are run along with the status of each test.
