  SWITCH MODE POWER SUPPLY TRAINER MODULES

1.SMPS BASIC STUDY MODULE : [ITB-SMP01]

           Switch mode power supplies (SMPS) become an integral part of computers, Electronics equipments, TV's and etc. It is extensively used in latest IBM compatible computers, which forces the Engineers to understand it thoroughly. In order to understand the SMPS technically, Vi Microsystems has introduced seven "SMPS Training Modules" Model : VSMP-001 to VSMP-007. Seven different modules have been introduced for better understanding of SMPS technically. The five modules have been designed based on the basic topology and their derived counter-part SMPS, namely buck converter, Boost converter, Buck-boost converter, fly back converter, forward converter, half bridge converter and current mode convertor. These modules allows the beginners to understand the basic principle of SMPS and its various design implementation.

        a. Buck Converter & Boost Converter (Non-isolated) [ITB-SMPO1M1] [VSMP-001]
        b. Buck-Boost Converter (Non-Isolated) [ITB-SMP01M2] [VSMP-002]
        c. Forward Converter & Fly back Converter (Isolated) [ITB-SMP01M3][VSMP-003]
        d. Half Bridge converter (Isolated) [ITB-SMP01M4] [VSMP-004]
        e. Current Mode Converter (Isolated) [ITB-SMPO1M5] [VSMP-005]
         f. SMPS Input Module [ITB-SMPO1M7] [VSMP-005]

  Closed loop control with voltage mode controller

b. Buck-Boost Converter (Non-Isolated) [ITB-SMP01M2] [VSMP-002]                         [TOC]

 

 

  Open loop control

  IC TL494 for PWM controller

  MOSFET as Power Switch Device

  Switching Frequency : 50 KHz

  Either Buck or Boost the input voltage

  Output Voltage : +12V to +60V

  One Trimpot provided to demonstrate the Buck & Boost operation

  Power Input : 15/48 Volt AC from the "SMPS Input Module" - (VSMP-007)

c. Forward Converter & Fly back Converter(Isolated) [ITB-SMP01M3][VSMP-003]     [TOC]

  Consists of two types of converters namely :

      1. Forward Converter

      2. Fly Back Converter

  Common bridge rectifier & PWM controller

  Separate Forward converter & Separate Fly back converter

  MOSFET as Power Switching Device

  Switching Frequency : 50KHz

  Switch to select forward or Flyback converter

  Output Forward Converter voltage : +12V @ 1 Amps

  Output Flyback converter voltage : +12V @ 1 Amps

  Input & Output sections are Isolated by transformer (High frequency ferrite transformer) (Magnetic)

  Power Input : 15/48 Volt AC from the "SMPS Input Module" - (VSMP-007)

  Closed loop control with voltage mode control

d. Half Bridge converter (Isolated) [ITB-SMP01M4] [VSMP-004]                                 [TOC]

  Closed loop control with voltage Mode controller

  Half Bridge method

  MOSFET as Power Switch Device

  Switching Frequency : 50KHz

  Filter Frequency : 100 KHZ

  Input & Output sections are Isolated by transformer (High frequency ferrite transformer) (Magnetic)

  Output Voltage : +12V @ 1Amps

e. Current Mode Converter (Isolated) [ITB-SMPO1M5] [VSMP-005]                            [TOC]

  Closed loop control with current mode controller

  Forward converter

  Multi-output : +12V & +24V

  MOSFET as power switching device

  Switching Frequency : 50KHz

  Coupled Inductor for cross regulation of multi output

  Inherent short circuit protection at the output side

  Pulse by Pulse balancing protection

  Advanced SG 3845 as PWM controller

  Fastest load regulation at the output

  Input & Output sections are Isolated by transformer (High frequency ferrite transformer) (Magnetic)

  Power Input : 15/48 Volt AC from the "SMPS Input Module" - (VSMP-007)

f. SMPS Input Module [ITB-SMPO1M7] [VSMP-005]                                                   [TOC]

  230 Volt AC input

  Provided with step down Transformer for 15/48 Volt AC input to all SMPS modules

  AC output : 15/48 Volt @ 2 Amps

  DC Output : +12 Volt @ 200mA

  DC voltage is used for all SMPS trainer modules to power the PWM Controller
